Janet began her love of music in the early 70’s. Her resume is broad and includes everything from playing music with the late Merle Watson and his Frosty Morn band, performing locally with the E Street Band sax player Clarence Clemmons to playing traditional folk music with her former group, Gracenote. She performs locally and solo with several groups including Janet Stolp and the Best Kept Secrets, A Slice of Durham Jazz and Durham Jazz. For the past ten years she has performed in numerous festivals and benefits across the triangle. Her greatest strength lies in her ability to communicate from the heart. Janet works with the Duke Live For Life Wellness program and resides in Durham with her husband Bret and two children.

“Her versatility makes her music a joy to listen to; her songs tasty morsels to savor.  She has fun singing, and does it with an ease and grace that is at once conveyed to the listener. Janet says that first her performing, and then her songwriting are the result of a mid-life crisis.  Whatever the crisis, it unleashed the muses that inspired music and earned her the NC singer songwriter award.  Would that all mid-life crises spawn such creative beauty.”
